To contain the spread of coronavirus in Assam, 5,000 random rapid COVID-19 tests will be conducted in the State post May 5th, 2020.
The tests will begin only after the stranded people at different places across the country are brought back to the State.
The Assam Government is finalizing modalities for bringing back stranded people.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 1st, 2020 held a high-level meeting to discuss the modalities regarding bringing stranded people of Assam to the state.
“We wanted to bring 95 cancer patients by Air Asia but they wanted corona-free certificates. They were tested and two patients were found positives. Now, we have abandoned the plan,” said sources.
As per reports, the stranded people who are willing to come back to the State only for financial reasons will be given Rs 3,000 for three months each and would be asked to stay at their present locations.
Others like students, tourists, pilgrims, patients will be allowed to come back.
The stranded people will be screened at Assam border. Those with symptoms will be put under institutional quarantine and others will be stamped for home quarantine.
Assam Health Miniter Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that the State government might First send Assam State Transport Corporation buses to places like Kolkata, Siliguri to ferry back the stranded people.
“In the case of Mumbai, Pune and Southern states, we will require train services to resume. We requested the Civil Aviation ministry for providing flights to bring back the patients from Assam,” said Sarma.
