    Assam Police Detain 10407 Vehicles, Arrest 1400 Persons For Violated Lockdown Norms

    Since the imposition of the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, the Assam Police in total till Saturday detained over 10,407 vehicles.

    A report by the Assam Police stated that since lockdown, the total number of vehicles detained is 9,472 two-wheelers, 814 four-wheelers, 113 three-wheelers, 5 trucks, 5 machine boats and 14 country boats. The police also impounded two tractors.  The total fines realised were Rs 33.11 lakh for violating norms.

    The police added that persons arrested were 1,425 and cases lodged were 705.

    The police added that apart from these, till date 60 cases were lodged in the state against persons engaged in the spreading of fake news and rumours related to the COVID-19.  Among these 36 persons were arrested while 9 of them are out on bail.

    Among the arrested, Dhing’s Member of the Legislative Assembly from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Aminul Islam was one. He was arrested for allegedly making communal and provocative statements through social media.

    SP Nagaon, Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said that the MLA was arrested based on certain complaints that he had been circulating clips and messages on social media that were highly communal and provocative which had the tendencies to create a clash between two particular communities amidst the ongoing lockdown and outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
