The National Register of Citizens (NRC) data, which was reported to be inaccessible on the official website, is back online after ten days.
Hitesh Dev Sarma, the NRC state coordinator, confirmed that the data is available on the cloud since midnight of February 21st, 2020.
The data of the final NRC list, published last August, has vanished from the website of the state NRC (nrcassam.nic.in). The data was published as mandated by the Supreme Court.
Sarma informed the media that the data was stored at the cloud service provided by Wipro which expired on December 15 last year as it was not renewed and the data got offline.
Wipro was appointed as the ‘System Integrator for NRC’ in Assam in 2014 and was tasked with ‘providing the technical architecture and technology solutions for the project’.
Out of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 persons were found eligible and 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the final NRC list including those who did not submit claims.
Political parties, several organisations have vociferously expressed their unhappiness with the final exclusion figures. They claimed that a large number of indigenous people were excluded from the final NRC list.
