    Assam Is India’s New Growth Engine: Sonowal

    Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rs 25 crore was spent in building the new 10-storeyed Assam Bhavan building at Salt Lake in Kolkata

    Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014, people’s perception changed about Assam, Northeast.

    “Assam and the Northeast is the country’s new growth engine. Assam is one of the most investor-friendly states in the country. The diversity of culture is the hallmark of the state,” Sonowal said at the inaugural programme of an additional Assam Bhavan building in Kolkata on February 16th, 2020.

    Sonowal said that the state thrives on the spirit of brotherhood and unity among people of different communities and religions. “Assam is also a hot seat of biodiversity,” he added.

    Assam Chief Minister said that Modi changed the stereotype perception among the people that the state and the Northeast region meant terrorism, bomb blast, killing and unrest. “Guwahati is aiming to become the gateway of Southeast Asia,” Sonowal said.

    Sonowal further stated that Bangladesh and Bhutan have set up deputy high commission and consulate in Guwahati. “Israel is also in the process of doing so,” he said.

    Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rs 25 crore was spent in building the new 10-storeyed Assam Bhavan building at Salt Lake in Kolkata.

    “Assam is on an unprecedented growth path in the fields of health, educational and road infrastructure,” Sarma said.

    Sonowal also unveiled a life-size statue of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa, a pioneer of modern Assam literature, at Old Assam House complex located at Russel Street in Kolkata.
