The Assam government on September 4th, 2019, has directed the Commissioner and Secretary, Finance Department, Shyam Jagannathan to conduct a probe into the heinous Teok Tea Estate mob lynching incident which claimed a doctor’s life. The state government has also ordered for fast track court to try the case.
“The Assam Government has decided for fast track court to try the case involving the killing of Dr Deben Dutta at Teok Tea Garden in Upper Assam. Moreover, the government has instituted an inquiry and asked commissioner and secretary finance Shyam Jagannathan to inquire into the killing of the doctor,” a press communiqué stated.

A total of 31 persons including the prime accused Sanjay Rajuwar have been arrested in connection with the case so far. It may be mentioned that on the night of August 31st, 2019, 73-year-old Dr Dutta was mercilessly beaten by the relatives of a tea garden worker for allegedly reaching the hospital premises late.
He was working in the tea garden hospital after his retirement without remuneration. Dutta succumbed to his injuries before reaching the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital on a fateful day.
