    Assam Govt Forms Committee To Counter Fake News

    As of now, the police have arrested four-person for allegedly spreading fake news while seven cases have already been registered.

    The Assam government has formed a committee to counter fake news relating to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) circulating on social media platforms. The committee will monitor social media and suspected fake news.

    As of now, the police have arrested four-person for allegedly spreading fake news while seven cases have already been registered. The committee will be monitoring all sorts of reports in the media and then will report to the cybercrime branch for further action.

    GP Singh, ADPG Law and Order tweeted that the citizens can now report fake news, rumours and inappropriate social media posts infringing law on the mobile number +9191326-99735 and also email [email protected] with the particulars of their concern.

    Director Information & Public Relations, Anupam Choudhury, Director of Family Welfare Munundra Ngate, Additional Director of Information & Public Relations Pradeep Brahma, Assam Police CPRO, Rajib Saikia and Project Manager of ASDMA Mukutram Deka have been appointed for the committee.

    Assam Police tweeted that stringent actions will be taken against people found spreading provocative content, rumours and fake news about COVID-19.
