    Assam Govt Dissolves Dibrugarh Municipal Board

    As per the order, Chairperson of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board, Soma Chakraborty admitted that the charges against her were true

    The Assam government on November 25th, 2019, in the exercise of its power under section 298 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956 dissolved the Dibrugarh Municipal Board with immediate effect.

    The Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Urban Development Department, Neeraj Verma did not find the replies of the Chairperson Soma Chakraborty satisfactory against the charges.

    As per the order, the chairperson appeared in person and a statement on oath was taken where she admitted that the charges were true.

    The charges were financial misappropriation, improper maintenance of main cash book/ logbooks for the office vehicles, improper maintenance of records of the assets of DMB, irregularities in leasing out of municipal parking places and advertisements and allotment of markets/ parking/ hoardings through an illegal tendering process.
