The Government of Assam in a notification has declared August 23rd, 2019 as a public holiday on account of Janmashtami instead of August 24th, 2019 in Assam.
The notification stated that the state will observe August 23rd, 2019 as Krishna Janmashtami and all government institutions including industrial establishments will remain closed on August 23rd, 2019 instead of August 24th, 2019.
The notification states, “In partial modification of this department’s earlier notification, the Governor of Assam is pleased to declare 23rd August 2019 as a holiday on account of Janmashtami instead of 24th August 2019”
The celebrations of Krishna’s birthday will start from the midnight of August 23rd and Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 24th across the state.

It may be mentioned that Krishna Janamashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
