“As of now the state government is geared to spend Re 550 cr budgeted towards mitigation efforts,” the minister said.
He further said, “The amount is to be spent towards relief materials including rice, dal, baby food, utensils, clothes as well as compensation for damage of houses, cattle feed etc.” He also asked the concerned officials to make good use of fund so that the state government can request the centre for further release of funds.
Sarma reviewed relief work and rehabilitation of people affected by the flood, as well as infrastructure damage.
“The finance department has also agreed to provide a full amount for reconstruction and restoration of damage of infrastructure during the first two waves of the flood. Departments have been asked to provide full details of their funds’ requirement,” Sarma said.
He also said, “This is needed so that we can make appropriate provisions through supplementary demands in Assembly Session starting July 26th, 2019. I have requested the revenue department to take a liberal approach in providing relief to the affected.”
A total of 5,751,938 people and 4,537,171 animals have been affected across 114 revenue circles in 29 out of 33 districts in the state, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.
