A teenage girl from Assam’s Silchar allegedly fled to the neighbouring city of Siliguri in West Bengal to meet a friend which she met on the viral video making application Tiktok.
As per reports, both the teenage girls came in contact through TikTok and often collaborated in creating viral videos on the internet. With the passage of time, their friendship grew and the latter reportedly planned to meet her Siliguri friend.
The incident came to light after the girl was reported missing and subsequently a case was registered by the family with the police in Assam. Things went dicey after the girl’s parents in Siliguri’s Noukaghat went suspicious after their daughter’s ‘new friend’ allegedly dwelled at the house for more than six days. The family approached the New Jalpaiguri Police.
Based on the complaints, the New Jalpaiguri Police got in touch with its counterparts in Assam and found that the girl was missing from her house for a week. Efforts are on to bring the girl back to her home.
TikTok is a video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. It is used to create short lip-sync videos.
