The Assam Government has constituted a committee to bring back the stranded people hit by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) induced lockdown in a phased manner.
The committee will formulate SoP for bringing back migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places to the State.
G P Singh, Additional DGP of Law and Order, will head the committee. The decision was taken during the State Level Empowered Committee, COVID-19 meeting on April 30th, 2020.
GP Singh will be assisted by Harmeet Singh, ADGP (Security); A S Manivannan, CEO, ASDMA; A P Tiwari, MD, ASTC; Dr Laxmanan S, MD NHM and Adil Hussain, Commissioner, Transport.
The Committee has been asked to submit the SoP report within a day.
GP Singh has been appointed as the nodal officer for the entire exercise of bringing back people from other states. Harmeet Singh has been designated as the alternate nodal officer.
The committee also decided that text book shops shall be allowed to remain open from 10 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday.
The committee also decided that for intra-state movement of stranded people, the Department of Transport shall arrange buses from the Assam State Transport Corporation and the expenditure for the same shall be borne by National Health Mission.
