Assam Education Min To Officially Introduce Commerce As Elective Subject On Sept 27

The inaugural meeting will start from 11 am onwards and the SEBA has requested all to attend the meeting

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will hold an inaugural meeting for the introduction of Commerce as an elective subject from the Academic year 2020 of classes IX and X on September 27th, 2019 at the Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahkar Auditorium in Gauhati Commerce College, Guwahati.

The Chief Guest of the inaugural meeting will be State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya and the Guest of Honour will be Advisor of Education, Assam Government Professor Dr Mihir Kanti Choudhury.

In the month of August 2019, the SEBA had announced about this initiative and said that it will introduce textbooks for commerce for both the classes from 2020 and 2021 respectively. This decision was taken to develop entrepreneurial skills among students from a young age.

The SEBA will also include a chapter on entrepreneurship in all vocational courses and the introduction of this course will build a strong foundation for the students who want to pursue the commerce stream in their higher studies.

Also, banking, accountancy, insurance, etc will be included in the elective subject for students to have the basic knowledge about the stream before they venture for higher studies and also for those who want to pursue their own businesses.
