    Assam Cricket Association Offers Barsapara Stadium For Setting Up COVID-19 Isolation Centre

    The Barsapara Cricket Stadium is India’s 49th international cricket venue which hosts both national and international cricket matches

    The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has offered the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, officially known as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium, for setting up a quarantine centre in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to accommodate people who have been advised isolation.

    “In view of the emergent situation arising due to coronavirus pandemic, the ACA on behalf of the State cricket body, has decided to offer the Barsapara Stadium and its premises to the Assam Government for establishing temporary hospital and quarantine centre,” said Devajit Saikia, secretary, ACA.

    He added, “The ACA will provide every possible support to the government to fight against coronavirus outbreak during this critical juncture.”

    The Barsapara Cricket Stadium is India’s 49th international cricket venue which hosts both national and international cricket matches.

    The 40,000 capacity stadium is one of the finest in the country having all the modern facilities.  The stadium is built at 24 acres of land and the expenses are believed to be around Rs 300 crore.

    The stadium has all the modern facilities with an indoor swimming pool, gym, a practice wicket, and a pavilion for the players. For the crowd, there are covered stands, place for refreshments, enough toilets.

    The Assam government is building a massive quarantine centres to keep COVID-19 patients at the Nehru and Sarusajai Stadiums in Guwahati.

    State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 26th, 2020 visited the Sarusajai Sports Complex.

    “A large quarantine centre will be established at the Sarusajai Sports Complex with capacity for about 700 people. It shall be ready in a week’s time,” said Sarma.
