Assam Congress president Ripun Bora on August 5th, 2019, wrote to the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah urging his intervention to stop the NRC re-verification process. He also termed the re-verification process as ‘illegal’.
In the letter, Bora stated, “The Supreme Court had rejected the petitions of the Assam Government and Central Government for 20 per cent re-verification of the names of the draft NRC.
“The NRC authority has hurriedly issued thousands of notice to the different persons across the state fixing from August 5th, 2019, for re-verification of the draft NRC,” Bora stated in the letter.
Bora further stated, “I urge upon you to intervene into this matter and stop NRC authority of Assam from doing re-verification of the draft NRC list and give justice to the Indian citizens from the undue harassment on the name of re-verification.”
