With only a few days remaining for the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), Assam Congress leader Ripun Bora demand for an error-free list. He also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam government is trying to disrupt the updation process of NRC.
“We have noticed that the government is delaying the NRC exercise. We want that no genuine citizen gets excluded from the NRC,” said Bora while urging the people of Assam to maintain peace and discipline after the publication of the final NRC.
Bora also came down heavily on Hojai legislator Shiladitya Dev and asked him to stop making communal statements ahead of the NRC publication. “Sonowal should control his MLAs,” added the Congress leader while addressing media here on August 26th, 2019.
It may be mentioned that former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi also expressed concern over the NRC. Gogoi also termed the citizens’ register as a waste paper.

The time limit of filing of appeals for the people of Assam excluded from the NRC in the Foreigners’ Tribunals has been increased from 60 days to 120 days.
