Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the demise of the former Director-General of Police Khagen Sarma on October 25th, 2019.
The 1982-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre passed away at around 7.15 pm at the Sun Valley Hospital in the city today. He was suffering from cancer for a long time.
Sarma, who took charge as the DGP in 2014 after the retirement of the then DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury, retired on November 30th, 2015.
He, who helmed the special branch (SB) of Assam police for over a decade, had played a key role in bringing many militant groups to the negotiating table. Sarma had played an important role as Sub-Divisional police Officer in Majuli, the island district now, in 1990 in neutralising the activities of United Liberation Front of Asom.
