This time the Golden Needle tea from Donyi Polo Tea Estate of the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has made the headlines after a single line of 1.1 kg was sold at record Rs 75000 per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Center(GTAC).
The same tea estate of Arunachal Pradesh had on 2018 set a record with their tea after it was auctioned for Rs 39,000 per kg here, informed Dinesh Bihani, Secretary Guwahati Auction Tea Buyers Association.
It may be mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh has recently came up in the world map of tea history when it started producing speciality tea and selling them at record prices in GTAC . The teas were appreciated by tea lovers all over the world.
The tea is brought by Chattarsingh Narendra Kumar, a city based buyer for its Client Absolute Tea run by Jayant Jalan of Absolute Tea. “We bought Donyipolo Golden Needles and World Championship winning tea from Halmari in the past few years, the response has been superb with people loving the tea. We expect a similar response this year.” Added Bihani.
Satyanjoy Hazarika (Managing Director Tea) of Contemporary Brokers, informed that the tea was made from the tips of selected clones by skilled artisans.
It may be mentioned that earlier this month breaking all previous records, a kilogram of Dikom Golden Butterfly Tea of Dikom Tea Estate of Rossell Tea Industries was auctioned for Rs 75,000 per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) on August 13th, 2019. It was claimed to be as the highest price ever paid for tea in a public auction. It was sold through GTAC broker by J Thomas & Co Pvt ltd in GTAC Sale no 33.
On the other hand a kilogram of Manohari Gold Tea from a garden in Upper Assam was sold for Rs 50,000 at the GTAC on July 30th, 2019.
The GTAC has recently also emerged as one of the busiest tea trading facilities in the world and has witnessed one of the largest volumes of CTC tea auction in the world.
