Amidst the ongoing lockdown due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country, another youth was allegedly lynched at Jorhat’s Mariani in Upper Assam.
As per reports, the youth identified as Debasish Gogoi was allegedly lynched by a mob containing 50 persons. The incident took place following a road mishap in a tea garden area while he along with another youth named Aditya were returning from a tourist spot namely, Gabhoru Parbat.
The locals had attacked them when they met with an accident and their two-wheeler reportedly “slight hit” two local women. Following this, they were beaten up by a mob without any confrontation about what happen neither did the mob try to access if they were all right after falling from the bike.
The mob turned so brutal that it did not even stop beating the youth even when the youth’s father and sister arrived at the spot.
Debasish after being beaten up succumbed to his injuries while Aditya was somehow taken to a hospital.
Four persons have been reported to be arrested by the police while an investigation has been initiated.
This incident has sparked a state-wide protest on social media and people are demanding justice for them.
Some have linked this incident as being similar to the Abhi- Neel lynching incident which took place in Karbi Anglong in the year 2018.
