Assam has reported its third novel coronavirus (COVID-19) related death on Monday taking the total confirmed deaths to three.
As per initial information, the deceased has been identified as Gopindra Chandra Malakar, 71, who had recently returned from Mumbai. He was a neck cancer patient and after his return, he was tested positive of the virus.
On Monday he passed away at the GMCH owing to respiratory distress.
The total number of active cases in Assam now stands at 56 with three confirmed deaths.
Assam earlier reported two more novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Monday taking the total number of cases to 102. The total number of recovered patients is 41.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet informed that among the two persons, one is from Jorhat and the other one is from Nagaon.
Both of them are currently lodged in the quarantine centres.
As per sources, among the person from Jorhat belongs to Madhupur in Titabar and the one from Nagaon is from the Sutorupohi area. Both of them are 20 years old and are currently being treated.
Assam crossed the 100 cases mark on Sunday, May 17 and it has been suspected that there are several other such cases remaining in the state which can be termed as silent. The health department is now trying to track all the sources and silent carriers of the virus to eradicate the threat of the virus infection from the state.
