All Is Well? Zubeen Hugs Assam CM At Filmfare Awards, Pics Go Viral

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and heartthrob of Assam Zubeen Garg were seen sharing lighter moments at the Filmfare Awards function

Assam is still in a state of euphoria as the prestigious Filmfare Awards 2020 concluded with a successful show. While Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh-starrer Gully Boy swept the awards function on February 15th, 2020, Assam is still soaking in the starry night for yet another reason.

Ahead of the gala event, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and heartthrob of Assam Zubeen Garg were seen sharing a light moment at the venue, photographs of which are currently doing the rounds on the social media.

In a series of photographs, the singer is seen greeting Sonowal in presence of other BJP-AGP leaders. In due course of the conversation, the singer went ahead and hugged Sonowal.

Netizens, however, have a mixed reaction to the photographs as some criticized the singer and called it a ‘sheer drama’ while others reacted with shocking emojis.

It may be mentioned that the singer, who has been vocal against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), had vehemently criticized the BJP including Sonowal for supporting the ‘anti-Assam law’.

Zubeen had accused Sonowal of betraying the people of Assam by maintaining “stoic silence” and “surrendering to the BJP” over the CAA.

Last year, Zubeen had written to the Chief Minister over the Citizenship Amendment Bill and demanded that the votes the BJP got using an election song sung by him in 2016 be ‘returned’. In a Facebook post, the singer also offered to return the remuneration received for the song.

Zubeen has been actively taking part in the anti-CAA protests and to register his resentment, the singer has recently launched a website ‘Assam Against CAA. According to Zubeen, the website will focus on all the facts regarding the enacted legislation and affirmed continuing their agitation against the act.

However, days ahead of the glittery night, the singer came out in support of the Filmfare Awards in Guwahati and emphasised that his fight is against the CAA and it has “nothing to do with the award ceremony or other sports events” organized in Assam.
