Guwahati: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar who recently donated Rs 2 crore for the victims of the deluge in Assam said that people should start contributing instead of just showing solidarity.
The Khiladi star who was lauded for his move and concern for the victims of flood-hit Assam at the trailer launch of Mission Mangal in Mumbai was also questioned about his humanitarian gesture.
Akshay was of the idea that he did not just want to tweet expressing concern but contribute so that there is actually some help for the victims. “I do not want to just tweet ‘so sad, ‘God bless’ but contribute,” said Akshay as quoted by India Today. He further urged the people to “contribute anything they could instead of just showing concern”.
He also reportedly joked that “he has a lot of money” and shared that he came across a photograph where a woman carrying her child with half of her body inundated in water was walking past the road.
“I consider it lucky that this did not happen to us. When I saw the photograph, I thought this could happen to my family—my wife, daughter as well,” said Akshay as quoted by India Today.
The floodwaters have been reported to recede in some parts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s report, a total of 5,352,107 people and 4,778,238 animals have been affected in across 103 revenue circles in 28 out of 33 villages in Assam till July 18th, 2019.
