The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and other 29 ethnic organisation of the state will move the Supreme Court soon seeking re-verification of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list. The list was released on August 31st, 2019.
Speaking to the media persons, the AASU chief advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said, “The final NRC list included many illegal foreigners’ name and excluded many indigenous people. The 30 ethnic organisations including the AASU are not happy with the list. We will soon move the top court urging re-verification of the list.” Besides, he alleged that the list has many errors. Bhattacharya further accused the central and the state government of not doing anything to exclude illegal foreigners from the list despite having enough time.

Talking about the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project, Bhattacharya said, “We vehemently oppose the construction of the dam. We have been continuously voicing against the dam.”
