A Step Closer To Becoming An Organic State, Nagaland Gets ‘Organic’ App

Nagaland State Advisor for Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan said that the state is on the verge of formulating a ‘Nagaland State Organic Policy'

Nagaland Minister of Agriculture and Corporation, G Kaito Aye launched the ‘Naga Organic’ app developed by the Agriculture and Horticulture department in collaboration with the IT department.

The app will facilitate buyers and sellers – Farmer Producer Company (FPC) / Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) – to find their interest of produce products and a platform to the FPO/FPC to directly get in touch with the buyer without involving any middle man.

The app was launched at the ‘Outreach cum buyer-seller meet on organic food production in Northeast’ organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in collaboration with Agriculture department sponsored by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority  (APEDA). The event was held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on 20th August 2019.

Speaking on the occasion, Aye said, “The meet is an initiative to uplift and promote the Agro-based farmers of the state and the government is giving all its effort to make Nagaland an Organic State.”

“To facilitate stronger marketing access under the ownership of growers’ organisation, Government of Nagaland has registered the brand as ‘Naga Organic’. The FPOs and entrepreneurs under the mission have started selling their produces and products under this brand,” added Aye.

Aye also urged the ICC, APEDA and buyers and investors to continue to support and promote the Agro-based farmers in the state to make their venture successful. He also hoped this meet will convince the huge potential of the state in the organic food production sector and the immense scope of investment in food processing industries.

At the event, Nagaland State Advisor for Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan said, “The state is on the verge of formulating a ‘Nagaland State Organic Policy.’ This policy will guide us in transforming our State’s ‘Organic by default’ into an ‘Organic by design’ hub.”

Regional Director, ICC highlighted on ‘Organic products’ and what it really means. He said, “Nagaland has the potential and resources to build up a well-organized producer as the topology and the landscape is strategically located, surrounded with international borders and have a high opportunity to export to our neighbouring countries.”
