Nine persons who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi were detained by Assam Police from the Kharupetia area in Darrang district.
According to Darrang police, all the detained persons hail from Maharashtra and had attended the Nizamuddin event in March. They were allegedly hiding in Kamarpara village in Kharupetia since the last few days.
The detained persons have been identified as: Kafil Ali, Danish Ali, Samser, Saniullah, Habibur Akram, Jayed Ali, Ajmal, Shoyeb Ali, and Mubasir.
The Jamaat attendees have been sent to the quarantine centre at Mangaldoi Civil Hospital.
Sor far, a total of 26 positive cases of novel coronavirus have been detected in Assam. Out of which, 25 are linked with the Nizamuddin Markaz gathering.
The Nizamuddin Markaz, the Tablighi Jamaat headquarters in south Delhi has emerged as a COVID-19 hotspot.
