    86,000 People From Assam Stranded In Other States Get Rs 2,000 Each

    The decision to provide financial support to the needy stranded people was taken by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during a COVID-19 review meeting

    The Assam government on April 20th, 2020 transferred Rs 2,000 each to the bank accounts of 86,000 people who are now stranded in other states due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) induced nationwide lockdown.

    The decision to provide financial support to the needy stranded people was taken by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during a COVID0-19 review meeting on April 19th, 2020.

    Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government has identified 99,758 people to provide this assistance.

    “86,000 peop[le got the money today. Others will get it within the next few days,” Sarma said in Guwahati on April 20th, 2020.

    “We have also released Rs 25,000 each to 647 cancer patients. More calls received on our Helpline 9615471547 are being verified,” Sarma added.

    The Health Minister said that the second instalment will be released before the lockdown is lifted.
