    8 Km-Long Traffic Jam In Lower Assam Owing To Dwijing Festival

    Lower Assam districts like Bongaigaon and Goalpara on January 4th, 2020 witnessed major traffic congestion due to the Dwijing Festival in Chirang district of Assam.

    The annual river festival, Dwijing has begun on the bank of River Aie at Chirang district in Assam on December 27th, 2019. It is the third edition of the festival and will conclude don January 7th, 2020.

    On January 4th, 2020, 8 km long traffic jam was witnessed from Chapaguri to Rakhaldubi. The aim of the festival is to promote river tourism.

    The 12-day festival saw the participation of a number of singers and dance troupes from Bollywood and Northeast.

    The festival is also offering food carnivals, exhibitions, fashion shows, adventurous games, competitions and a host of other adventurous activities.

    Bollywood stars like Vishal and Shekhar, Bhoomi Trivedi, Himesh Reshammiya, Jonita Gandhi, Sugandha Mishra and many others performed at the festival. Bollywood singers Neeti Mohan and Mika Singh will perform on January 4th, 2020.

    The festival has been attracting both domestic and global tourists and marking an example of cultural exchange.

    The festival is being organised jointly by Assam’s tourism department, Assam Tourism Development Corporation and Bodoland Tourism. It may be mentioned that the festival, which started off in 2016, was earlier known as the ‘Aie River Winter Festival’. The name eventually changed to ‘Dwijing’ which means ‘river bank’.
