8 Food Parks Coming Up In Northeast: Rameswar Teli

We are planning to have a mini food park in Upper Assam: BJP MP

Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Rameswar Teli on August 26th, 2019 informed that the Center has taken up the initiative to set up eight mega/mini food parks in the Northeastern states to boost farmer’s income. This is a part of the country-wide initiative to set up 42 food parks aiming at capturing the international market.

According to the BJP MP, his Ministry has decided to set up food parks at Arunachal, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura including Assam keeping in view of the scope of production.

“As per the Ministry’s policy, a mega food park requires 50 acres of land and a mini-park requires 10 acres of land. Apart from Assam, the other states of Northeast are mountainous which makes it difficult to procure the land. So, we have decided to set up mini food parks in the small states,” said Teli in an exclusive interview with TIME8.

“Before establishing a food park we need to check the availability of raw materials and also the scope of modern food industry. Our Ministry has been supporting budding entrepreneurs with 50 per cent subsidy in Northeast and will continue to do so,” added Teli.

The Minister further informed that efforts are on to make the mega food park at Nath Kuchi at Tihu in Nalbari district operational. “We are planning to have another mini food park in Upper Assam,” said the BJP MP.

Earlier this month Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the State government is in touch with the Centre to make the mega food park in Tihu operational, a blueprint of which is under process.

While speaking about the scrapping of the Article 370 and 35(A), the Union Minister said that some veteran Congress leaders were impressed by the Modi-led government’s decision to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) special status and have shown eagerness to join the party.

It may be mentioned that in a historic move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5th, 2019 moved a resolution at the Rajya Sabha to scrap the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution in J&K and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.
