As many as four earthquakes of 5.5, 5.6, 3.8 and 4.9 magnitudes hit Arunachal Pradesh one after another on July 19th, 2019 and July 20th,2019. An earthquake with a 5.5 magnitude on Richter Scale hit East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh at 4:24 am on July 20th, 2019.
On July 19th, 2019, three earthquakes hit Arunachal Pradesh within minutes of each other sending shockwaves across the Northeastern region. The tremors were felt in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and adjoining areas of the Northeast.
Fortunately, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far due to the strong quakes.
It may be mentioned that on July 19th, 2019, the first quake of 5.6-magnitude occurred at 2:52 pm at a depth of 10 km in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The second one of 3.8-magnitude was recorded at 3:04 pm and the third 4.9-magnitude quake was recorded at 3:21 pm.
According to seismologists, the entire Northeastern region falls under ‘Zone 5’ on the seismic map, making the states susceptible to earthquakes.
