The Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on four private nursing homes in Dibrugarh town for violating the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules.
A letter imposing fine of Rs 50,000 has been issued by DMB to the each of the following nursing homes – Damani’s Nursing Home, Sanjivani Hospital, HM Hospital and MGM hospital.
The action was initiated after it came to the notice of the DMB and district administration that biomedical Waste from these nursing homes was being discarded directly into the municipal dustbins located near the Dibrugarh Circuit House on the Assam Medical College Road by these institutions.
As per information available, these institutions were caught red-handed along with the tricycle cart carrying the bio-medical waste, which is against the rules of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016.
Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha has directed the DMB authorities to ensure strict compliance of the Rules and initiate action against any person or institution found violating the provisions in the future.
Authorities of all the nursing homes have been asked to deposit the amount in the office of the DMB within the next seven days.
