A special National Investigation Agency(NIA) court on August 30th, 2019 sentenced 19 accused persons including four Bangladeshi nationals to jail terms ranging from 6 to 10 years for their involvement in the 2014 Burdwan blast case.
Out of the 19 accused four of the Bangladeshi nationals—Sajid, Liakot Ali Parmanik, Jahidul Islam, Sadiq suspected to be members of the outlawed Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) – an Islamic terrorist organization operating in Bangladesh are convicted with 10 years of imprisonment. The 15 others who hail from parts of the country are reported to be the sleeper cells of the terrorist organization.
Earlier in the month of August the Assam police had arrested the trio from different parts of Assam and today the NIA court convicted them with jail terms. Sahidul Islam has been sentenced with 10 years of prison, Sahnoor Alam alias doctor is sentenced with 8 years of jail and Shaikul Islam Khan with 6 years of jail based on the quantum of punishment.
