200 Bags Of Molasses Seized In Dibrugarh

The Assam government in March 2019 banned molasses after the hooch tragedy, which killed more than 100 tea plantation workers

The Excise Department sleuths on September 26th, 2019, seized at least 200 bags of banned molasses at Duliajan Railway Station in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. The consignment was recovered from the Rangia-Dibrugarh Express. One person has been detained in this connection.

The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in March 2019 directed the chief secretary to ban molasses in the state after investigations into the hooch tragedy, which killed 165 tea plantation workers and left several others blind and ill in three tea gardens of Upper Assam’s Jorhat and Golaghat districts. CM ordered the ban as it is not listed in the Fodd Safety Standards Act, 2006.
