    2 New COVID-19 Positive Cases Reported In Assam; Tally Rises To 34

    So far five have recovered while one was reported dead

    Assam reported two more novel coronavirus (COVID-19) positive case, taking the state tally to 34. The fresh coronavirus positive case has been reported from the Morigaon district.

    Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the new cases are secondary contacts of the Nizamuddin Markaz attendees.

    Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on his twitter handle. He wrote, “Alert ~ Two persons from Morigaon have tested COVID-19 positive. They both are secondary contacts of Nizamuddin Markaz attendees. The cumulative number of patients in Assam now stands at 34. So far 5 patients have been cured.”

    These two cases take the number of confirmed cases to 34. So far five have recovered while one was reported dead. Currently, the number of active cases stands at 28.

    A patient from Hailakandi district succumbed to the infection at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on April 10th, 2020.

    Sarma on April 13th, 2020 said that most of the 30 COVID-19 patients in Assam are recovering. The recovered patients are likely to be discharged from hospitals from April 15th, 2020 onwards.

    The Health Minister further informed that of the 3,209 swab samples collected, 3,070 were found negative. “1,421 samples of contacts of Tablighi Jamaat attendees were collected, out of which 29 tested positive and1,358 tested negative. Test reports of 34 samples are awaited,” Sarma said.
