18-Year-Old Boy Drowns While Crossing River In Bilasipara

The deceased hailed from Bagmari village in Bilasipara of Dhubri district

An eighteen-year-old boy drowned while trying to cross a river at Bilasipara in Lower Assam’s Dhubri district on October 1st, 2019. The body of the Safinur Islam is yet to be recovered.

The local villagers said that Safinur was trying to cross the Dipo river when he slipped and fell into the water. Safinur hailed from Bagmari village and was the son of one Azizul Haque.

A few locals dived into the river to rescue him but in vain. The residents alleged that Raniganj Police Outpost personnel reached the location late due to which the rescue operation got delayed. The bad weather condition is also obstructing the rescue operations.

“Safinur was accompanied by one Matinul while crossing the river. Though Matinul successfully waded through the water, Safiunur slipped and drowned. Even after five hours of the incident, the SDRF or NDRF team is yet to reach our village,” a local man said.
