At least 15 persons from Kamrup Metro were tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday.
According to Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, all the 15 persons were connected to the patient from Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar area.
The total number of cases in Assam has now reached 79 confirmed cases with 37 active cases. Among the total reported cases, at least 39 were discharged and two were confirmed deaths.
The government is officially to declare the details of the new cases but it has been claimed that there were found with contact tracing and this one has been one of the biggest numbers of confirmed cases in just a single day. All of them were in a quarantine centre from Monday.
Guwahati had seen few reports of the virus but this now has created a sense of tension among the residents of the metropolitan city.
The government has asked the people not to panic and have assured that the situation is under control.
