    12 Students From Assam Quit ABVP In Protest Against Citizenship Bill

    The students of various premier colleges and universities of Assam have also joined the protests after the Union Cabinet passed the Bill on December 4th, 2019

    As protests over the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has intensified in Assam, 12 students from the state studying at various colleges under the Delhi University has quit the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

    The students were associated with Northeast Cell of the ABVP in various positions. The students are: Sheikh Raisa Tabussum (general secretary), Liza Gogoi (joint secretary), Bishnuparna Dutta (joint secretary), Niyor Sharma (student welfare president), Tanmoy Mahanta (student welfare general secretary), Srishti Dey (cultural president), Riyan Dutta (cultural secretary), Sradha Suman Saharia (student welfare president), Sahil Ahmed (literary president), Aditi (coordinator) and Ananya Dutta (social media head)

    The students staged anti-Bill protest in the premises of the varsity on December 8th, 2019. The students of various premier colleges and universities of Assam have also joined the protests after the Union Cabinet passed the Bill on December 4th, 2019.

    The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and entered India. The Bill will be tabled in the Lok Sabha on December 9th, 2019.
