    1198 Non-Tribals Arrested In Mizoram For Not Having Valid ILP

    According to the police, the arrests were made since August 1st, 2019 and the push back took place on the next day

    The Mizoram Police arrested as many as 1198 non-tribals from the northern part of the state for dwelling without a valid Inner Line Permit (ILP). Out of the arrested, around 92 of them were pushed back to the neighbouring state of Assam, the police informed on August 2nd, 2019.

    According to the police, the arrests were made since August 1st, 2019 and the push back took place on the next day. The police also informed that the arrested would be produced before the respective district courts.

    According to the police, 858 people were arrested in Aizawl district, 38 in Mamit district, 42 in Lunglei, 27 from Champhai, 98 from Serchip and 135 from Kolasib district respectively.

    The ILP is an official travel document issued by the Indian Government to allow inward travel of an Indian citizen into a protected area for a limited period. It is permitted in the Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram.
