1 Crore Illegal Bangladeshis’ Name Included In Assam NRC: Shiladitya Dev

Dev said that the NRC has fulfilled the AAMSU and AIUDF’s agenda

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s Hojai legislator Shiladitya Dev on August 31st, 2019, claimed that names of one crore ‘illegal Bangladeshis’ were included in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) that was released today.

“One crore illegal Bangladeshis’ names have included in the final list. This has fulfilled the All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) and the All India United Democratic Front’s agenda today,” Dev said.

He further said that there was a huge conspiracy behind the exclusion of Hindu people from the list. “NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela was in fear during the whole NRC updation procedure. He had no other options left but to do so,” Dev added.

Besides, Dev said, “This NRC list will definitely hamper the Assam since the state has to bear the burden of one crore Bangladeshis.” He also said, “There should be celebrations among the Assamese people after the publication of the list. But, people residing along the Indo-Bangla international border celebrated by distributing sweets which is a matter of concern.” Dev further urged the central government for a probe into the matter.

The final NRC was officially released on August 31st, 2019. It was started in 2013 as per the order of the Supreme Court. The apex court has been monitoring the whole NRC updation procedure since then. A total of 3,11,21,004 persons found eligible for inclusion in the final list while 19,06,657 were found ineligible. It may be mentioned that over 40 lakh people were excluded from the final draft NRC that was published in 2018.
